Born: February 15, 1958 in New York, New York. Education: B. S. in Chemical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, 1979; M. S. in Chemical Engineering, Stanford University, 1980; J.D. from Duke University School of Law, 1990. Admitted to the Florida Bar 1995, California Bar 1990, and United States Patent and Trademark Office 2000.

Worked as an associate for Fish & Neave (now Ropes & Gray) in Palo Alto, California specializing in patent litigation and licensing. Was a commercial litigation associate in Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton's Banking and Finance Department in Los Angeles, California; and worked for First Union National Bank (now Wachovia Bank) in its Commercial Loan Department in Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to law school, spent seven years as an engineer for Exxon in Houston and New Orleans.
