I have practiced since 1985 in both law firm and in-house settings in Norfolk, VA; Hartford, CT; Miami, FL; and Gainesville, FL. I have taught at the University of Florida - Levin College of Law since 2011 (teaching Real Estate Document Drafting again during the Fall 2015 semester), and the University of Florida – Warrington College of Business Administration since 2007 (scheduled to teach graduate-level Business Law for Entrepreneurs during the Spring 2016 semester), and I have taught at Santa Fe College (Gainesville, FL) from 1998-1999 and 2004-Attorney Philip Kabler2010.  I was an administrator with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice – District III for five years.

Given my background working in business and government, my greatest strength as an attorney is my ability to relate directly to our firm’s commercial clients in a “plain-English” way that helps them translate their objectives into actual outcomes, in a value-added way. Because I was a corporate general counsel, I have spent a good deal of time on the client-side of the “attorney/client” relationship, which helps me better understand their needs, desires, and risk tolerances. Finally, given my personally relentless pursuit of detail – I try as much as possible to “see” both the “forest” and “the trees” with our clients.

My favorite part of being an attorney is helping clients to create, build, and achieve their business goals.  I love the absolute intellectual challenge of being an attorney. The law seemed to me to be a natural successor to my philosophy background.

If I had not chosen to practice law, I would have pursued a career playing bass guitar in a touring “arena” band. Or as a chef.
